The Learning Treehouse
began as a dream for owner Ashley Boland and her former
partner Sheila Huggins. Both ladies taught a special needs
kindergarten class at Port Wentworth Elementary and began
discussing the desperate need for a quality child care
learning center in Effingham County. Ashley and Sheila had
ideas for a center that would not only provide a quality
environment for both staff and students but create a “home
away from home” feeling that is hard to find in most child
care centers. As their discussions progressed, they both
decided to take the necessary steps to make their dream a
reality. Developing the philosophy of The Treehouse (below)
was one of the first steps the ladies took in ensuring The
Treehouse would become an outstanding child care center in
the community.
On September 4, 2001 The
Learning Treehouse opened its doors to the public and
welcomed new children, families, and staff. The Treehouse
dream for Ashley and Sheila had truly become reality! The
ladies worked extremely hard to earn the reputation that The
Treehouse will carry with years to come. With a
well-organized plan and a professional staff the ladies have
built a “well-oiled machine”. Sheila Huggins has since
retired in 2006 however, Ashley continues the dream they
both worked so hard on in their classroom long ago.
In March of 2005, The
Learning Treehouse added a new office staff member; Jana
Fox. Jana had worked in The Treehouse toddler classroom as
lead teacher for over three years before becoming an office
assistant. Jana has a diploma in Early Childhood Program
Administration and has earned The National Administrator
Credential. Ashley and Jana worked together in the office as
director and assistant before Ashley began to phase herself
out of the daily operations in order to return to her
passion for teaching special needs children. In August of
2008, Jana took over as the director of The Learning
Treehouse and continues overseeing the daily operations of
the center.
Amy Hudson joined the
office staff in 2007 as administrative assistant after
teaching in child care for over 7 years. Mrs. Hudson has
since taken over as Assistant Director and assists Jana in
daily operations of the center.
Since its opening, The
Learning Treehouse has added an additional wing to
accommodate more students as well as an employee parking
lot. Additional curriculum including music and movement
classes for toddlers and ballet lessons for three and four
year olds is offered weekly. With each upcoming school year,
The Treehouse prepares for more new children and families
and sadly says goodbye to those who have “grown up” and
graduated from our pre-kindergarten program. No matter what
may come or go for The Treehouse, it is certain that the
children and families in its care will forever carry fond
memories of The Treehouse in their hearts.
